We Bought The Pub!

Our very own Neil Burke takes over ownership of The Black Friar after two years as partner.

We’re over the moon to announce that The Black Friar is now fully independent – one of the ONLY independently owned pubs in Manchester!

Our very own Neil Burke took the reins from Salboy & DOMIS, the teams which originally redeveloped our iconic pub, in December. Neil has been leading the Black Friar to success over the last two years, along with the support of head chef Ben Chaplin and the whole team.

Our historic pub reopened after a £1.4m restoration in 2021 by developer Salboy and construction company DOMIS – renovating the Grade II listed building as part of the Local Blackfriars residential development. Through Salboy & DOMIS’ ongoing support, Neil and team have been able to see our dream of having complete ownership of The Black Friar become reality.

Neil says: “It’s a dream to take over the ownership of the Black Friar and take the pub to the next level. Without the support of DOMIS and Salboy in seeing us through the notoriously difficult first 12 months of business, we would not be here standing proud. I can not thank them enough for all they have done.

When the team asked me to work with them to open the pub it was my ambition to create an inclusive space which became known as one of the best pubs in Manchester, now it’s about the future, growing on what we have already created, not sitting still and continuing to love our guests.”

This is such an exciting time, and we couldn’t have done it without you! The support of our guests and neighbours means everything… so whether you popped in for a pint, came for a meal or threw a big party – THANK YOU. We’re going to keep doing everything we can that makes The Black Friar Salford an excellent place to be. Much love to you all! Neil, Ben + Team x
